On November 21, a two-day joint workshop “Current Trends in the Global AML/CFT System,” took place in Minsk, Belarus, gathering LEA and CH FIUs officers.
The in-person event was attended by members of the CH FIUs Secretariat, CIS Executive Committee, CIS ATC, EAG Secretariat, ITMCFM, FIUs specialists, public and LEA officers, and representatives from private sector in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
“The following two days will be devoted to the experience sharing on topical AML/CFT issues and practical training in the form of a business game. I am convinced that this event will be productive and contribute to the successful accomplishment of the stated goals and objectives. The topics covered at the workshop will promote a deeper understanding of the issues arising in the implementation of the relevant international AML/CFT standards,” Ms. Yuliya Marchenko, Head of ITMCFM Project Implementation Department, welcomed the audience.
On the first day, the workshop covered the following topics:
- Practice of assessing the risks of terrorist financing using Islamic financial instruments;
- Practice of introducing Islamic financial instruments in the Russian Federation (exemplified by the Republic of Tatarstan and the Volga Federal District);
- Current trends in AML/CFT systems, including virtual currency;
- Practice of identifying virtual assets used in criminal activities.
Following the presentations, the attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and share the experience of their countries in solving cases on the topics covered.
