Outcomes of 42nd EAG Plenary

On May 26 through 30, a whole-of-government Russian delegation headed by Director of Rosfinmonitoring Yury Chikhanchin took part the 42nd Plenary Week of the Eurasian Group for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (EAG) in Moscow.

The Plenary Week brought together representatives of financial intelligence units, other AML/CFT government stakeholders, private sector, experts, and academia from international organizations and more than 15 countries across Eurasia, Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

The agenda included important events, such as The IV Forum of parliamentarians of the EAG Member States, Joint forum of supervisory authorities and private sector under the auspices of the EAG and the MENAFATF ‘Risk management in the era of new technologies’, Panel discussion ‘Financial security media coverage in the Eurasian region’, and more.

The central event of the week, the EAG Plenary Meeting chaired by Yury Chikhanchin, reviewed the progress of member preparations for the new round of mutual evaluations, current development of national AML/CFT systems, implementation and effective enforcement of the revised FATF Standards, mitigation of regionwide risks, and capacity building.

Participants shared their AML/CFT initiatives and best national practices.

For reference: The Eurasian Group for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (EAG) is a FATF-Style Regional Body and an associate member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The primary goal of the EAG is to improve conditions to protect financial systems and economies of the Member States from the threats of money laundering, financing of terrorism and financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in accordance with the FАTF International Standards.

Today the EAG brings together nine countries in the region (Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan). Observer status has been granted to 17 countries and 25 international organizations.
