Financial Intelligence Officer Game Hosted for Moscow Schoolchildren at the International RUSSIA EXPO

"Gamification in education has become one of the main educational trends in recent years. Learning is becoming more and more interesting, and it is easier to acquire new knowledge because pupils immediately apply it in the game."

Moscow high school students played the role of financial intelligence officers as ITMCFM experts hosted the Financial Intelligence Officer game for students of school No. 1384.

The Financial Intelligence Officer board game is based on the popular Mafia game. It helps students not only understand the mechanisms to ensure financial security at the state level, but also develop analytical, communication and social skills.

Alexey Miroshin, a teacher at school No. 1384, shared his impressions about Financial Intelligence Officer game and gamification in education:

At our school, many students are fond of board games, including economic ones, such as ‘monopoly’, ‘cash flow’, ‘industry’, etc. Therefore, there was great interest when a new game was proposed in the first place.

The children really liked the game! There were a lot of positive impressions. After the first game, they asked to play again. The organizer, Ksenia, was happy to have another game. Everyone was very excited, and I suggested our school hosting yet another game next time.

Squeezing all financial security knowledge into just one hour is very difficult. Nevertheless, I believe the creators of the Financial Intelligence Officer game did just that. The students immediately began to study their own roles and look at possible roles of other participants, observing behavior and decisions made during the game, planning their actions within limited timeframes. This demonstrates understanding the job of a financial intelligence specialist! Besides, after the game, many students continued to discuss the game; they asked questions, they wanted to know what various organizations can do, etc.

Gamification in education has become one of the main educational trends in recent years. Learning is becoming more and more interesting, and it is easier to acquire new knowledge because students immediately apply it in the game. Healthy competition during the learning process always motivates one to perform better. Therefore, such game-based learning methods are necessary and definitely useful for acquiring new knowledge.

The Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation hosted the game on the margins of the International RUSSIA EXPO.
