II Forum of Parliamentarians of the EAG member states took place in Almaty during the 38th EAG Plenary Week. Legislators and FIUs representatives from Armenia, Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the CSTO PA and UNOCT took part in the forum.
The agenda of the II Forum of Parliamentarians encompassed countering terrorist and extremist threats at the legislative level, safeguarding young people from negative influences, and the implementation of the FATF standards.
Mr. Nikolay Zhuravlev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, opened the forum by emphasizing the importance of unified measures, including legislative ones, to effectively combat extremist and terrorist threats.
In his turn, Mr. Yury Chikhanchin, Chairman of EAG and Head of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, highlighted the significance of AML/CFT communication not only within financial intelligence units and executive authorities, but also through sharing the best parliamentary legislative practices. Mr. Yury Chikhanchin qualified forum as a unique platform for dialogue between executive and legislative authorities in financial security, that helped identify AML/CFT unified risks and threats, and elaborate innovative methods to mitigate them.
Declaration, adopted as a significant outcome, emphasized the need for EAG member states to harmonize their legislative approaches in combating regional risks.
The forum, being a permanent venue, maintains openness to all concerned EAG observers, international organizations, and FATF member states.
