Meeting of the Organizing Committee on Preparation for the III International Financial Security Olympiad

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitriy Chernyshenko held a meeting of the Organizing Committee on Preparation and Holding of the III International Financial Security Olympiad 2023. Yury Chikhanchin, Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, the Bank of Russia, country’s leading universities and scientific organizations, as well as the administration of the Krasnodar Territory took part in the meeting.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the results of the Olympiad’s previous two years should not only be maintained, but significantly improved.

"While in 2021, schoolchildren and students from 7 countries participated in the Olympiad, in 2022 it was already 12 countries, including the BRICS countries. In 2023, 15 countries will take part in the Olympiad, with Namibia, Iran and Pakistan participating for the first time. The Centre for Inter-Olympic Training of Pupils and Students, aimed to develop the Olympiad, was established on behalf of the President in 2023. Special attention will be paid to the involvement of children and young people from the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporizhie regions," said Dmitriy Chernyshenko. In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister recommended to encourage participation in the Olympiad by representatives of friendly states, in particular Cuba and Vietnam.

More than 70,000 applications were submitted for the 2021-2022 Olympiad qualifying stages, and more than 860 people reached the final with 223 winners and prize-winners. The Olympiad winners get the right to enter the relevant programs of the International Network AML/CFT Institute’s member universities without exams.

"The best Olympiad traditions must be preserved. At the same time, it is necessary to constantly involve new participants and implement fresh ideas. This year we are planning to increase the number of the Olympiad stages. For the first time, there will be an invitation stage, where anyone can try to solve financial security assignments. The number of countries holding national Olympiads will also increase. In Tajikistan, for example, the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University will be such a venue," said Yury Chikhanchin.

Following the tradition, the Olympiad qualifying stages will be held at the venues of the participating organizations, including the RUDN University, St. Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON), State University of Management (SUM), Belarus State University and China Anti-Money Laundering Research Centre of Fudan University.

The final stage of the Olympiad will take place on October 2-6, 2023 at the Sirius federal territory.

As part of the Olympiad, thematic lessons on financial security will be held in schools and colleges across Russia (including the territories of the new constituent entities), in the federal children s centres “Artek”, “Okean”, “Orlyonok” and “Smena”, as well as in CIS, BRICS and SCO countries’ educational institutions. According to Yury Chikhanchin, the first lesson on financial security in new territories of the Russian Federation has already been held in a gymnasium of Shakhtyorsk, DPR.

The International Financial Security Olympiad is being held for the third time. In 2021, the Olympiad brought together pupils and students from seven countries (Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan). In 2022 there were participants from 12 countries, including the BRICS countries: Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, India, China, South Africa, Brazil.
