On October 3, 2021 an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS CHFIU) took place in the city of Sochi on the margins of the International Financial Security Olympiad. The event, which, contrary to the usual tradition, was not devoted to operational issues, was attended by A. Seryshev, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation on Issues of Civil Service and Personnel Policy, D. Afanasyev, Deputy Minister of Science and Education, and representatives of scientific community.
In his welcome speech, Yury Chikhanchin, CIS CHFIU Chairman, Director of Rosfinmonitoring, noted that the reason for the extraordinary meeting was the International Financial Security Olympiad, the final stage of which is being held at the “Sirius” federal territory. Yury Chikhanchin thanked the CIS countries for their support of this initiative and expressed the hope that this project would continue in the international format.
A. Seryshev in his speech noted that the Olympiad not only allows talented youth to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, but also helps many participants determine their future professional path. The Aide to the President of the Russian Federation especially emphasized that the wide coverage of the event increases informational, legal and financial literacy of young people throughout the Commonwealth. A. Seryshev also informed that the International Financial Security Olympiad is included in the list of international sports, cultural, scientific and business mass events of the Russian Federation and will be held annually.
D. Afanasyev reminded that the Olympiad was the result of many months of hard work, which began at the initiative of Rosfinmonitoring and was supported by the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian Government and other agencies. The Deputy Minister of Science and Education also reported that the International Financial Security Olympiad was included in the list of Olympiads, which provide advantages to winners and prizewinners when entering Russian universities.
V. Ovchinnikov, First Deputy General Director of the ITMCFM and Director of the International Network AML/CFT Institute, reported about the creation of the service scientific and educational platform of the International Financial Security Olympiad.
Besides that, an economic investigation tool developed by the P. Lebedev Physical Institute was demonstrated, which can be used by participants of the Olympiad to test their strength in conducting a real financial investigation.
