On July 28-29, 2022, a workshop "Legal Regulation of Virtual Assets. AML/CFT on the Crypto Market" was held at the ITMCFM in a videoconference mode. The event was attended by representatives of financial intelligence units, government agencies and the private sector of the EAG member states from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The workshop was conducted by the head of the Financial Monitoring Center, scientific director of the Master s program "International Economic Law" of the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, Doctor of Law, Associate Professor V. Ponamorenko. During the training, the participants got acquainted with the following questions:
- the concept and classification of digital assets. Development of the FATF s position on virtual assets and VASPs;
- positions of global financial regulators regarding crypto assets;
- regional and national models of crypto asset legalization in Europe and the USA;
- the problems of the development of regulation of the crypto market in the Eurasian region considering ML/TF risks.
Foreign colleagues noted the high level of organization of the event, and also expressed interest in holding events on this topic on an ongoing basis.
