Workshop for financial intelligence units and law enforcement agencies of the EAG member states

On September 8, 2022, a workshop "Investigation of Predicate Crimes Related to Money Laundering by the Members of Organized Criminal Groups and International Criminal Syndicates. The Practice of Conducting ML Financial Investigation by the Members of Organized Criminal Groups and International Criminal Syndicates" was held via videoconferencing.

 

Representatives of financial intelligence units (FIU) and law enforcement agencies from the EAG member states: the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the event organized by the ITMCFM with the participation of Rosfinmonitoring and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. The workshop was initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic.

 

The first half of the workshop was conducted by the invited expert lecturers: E. Firsova, Deputy Head of the Department for Countering the Legalization of Proceeds from Drug Trafficking of the Directorate for Organizing Operational and Preventive Measures, Countering the Drug Threat in the Field of IT Technologies and Legalization of Drug Proceeds of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, and S. Reshotka, Head of the Department of Investigations in Financial Markets of Rosfinmonitoring. The participants got acquainted with the investigation of predicate crimes related to money laundering by the members of organized criminal groups and international criminal syndicates, based on the practical experience of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and Rosfinmonitoring.

 

The second half of the event, organized in the format of a round table, was devoted to thematic presentations by representatives of the FIUs of the EAG member states. During consideration of foreign cases and subsequent discussions, the participants successfully exchanged country experience and best practices.
