The conference dedicated to enhancing efficiency of national AML/CFT systems, in anticipation of the third round of EAG mutual evaluations, opened in Bishkek. The event was organized by the State Financial Intelligence Service (SFIS) under the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the SFIS Training Center.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of financial intelligence units, law enforcement agencies and supervisory authorities from the EAG countries, Secretariat, ITMCFM, member universities of the International Network AML/CFT Institute, private sector stakeholders, and sectoral training centers.
Ivan Uvarov, Director General of ITMCFM, delivered welcoming remarks and extended congratulations to the participants. He emphasized that, as Kyrgyzstan is among the first EAG jurisdictions to undergo the new round of mutual evaluations, ITMCFM attaches particular importance to close cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic. He also announced upcoming training programs for AML specialists, focusing on the use of financial intelligence in investigations and the organization of risk-based supervision in the VASP sector.
"Both training events are practice-oriented and designed to equip participants with practical skills in the said areas. It is important that these competencies be implemented in real-life cases handled by law enforcement agencies and supervisory authorities, ensuring substantial level of effectiveness on immediate outcomes," said Mr. Uvarov.
In his speech, Director General of ITMCFM further underlined the traditionally active participation of Kyrgyz youth in the International Olympiad on Financial Security, the finals of which will take place at the heart of Siberia, Krasnoyarsk.
In addition, as part of the event, SFIS and ITMCFM signed a road map of risk assessments concerning the financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
