On August 19, 2026, ITMCFM hosted an interactive expert session “FIU Analyst Competency Profile: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.” The session, organized by representatives of ITMCFM and Rosfinmonitoring, brought together financial intelligence professionals participating in the New Generation program.
Opening the event, Oleg Ivanov, ITMCFM First Deputy Director General, noted that new financial security challenges and threats make it necessary to review and update the competencies embedded in the existing unified qualification framework for financial monitoring specialists. He added that the meeting would result in a collective portrait of the future FIU analyst, reflecting expert views and the participants’ national experience.
Through digital voting and professional discussion, participants identified the job functions, knowledge, and skills most in demand for FIU analysts, shaping the profession’s modern “gold standard.” The discussion covered every stage of a financial investigation: working with information sources, analyzing suspicious transactions, developing and testing analytical hypotheses, and preparing findings and reports.
A separate segment focused on future competencies. Experts assessed the importance of working with big data, cryptoassets and digital financial instruments, open-source information, digital forensics, as well as artificial intelligence and machine learning capacity.
The session results will be systematized and used in the further work of the International Association of Training and Methodology Centers of EAG Member States and the Contact Group for Developing the FIU Specialist Profile.
