Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, hosted the Fifth Forum of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG), dedicated to improving the efficiency of detection, investigation, and prosecution of criminal cases related to money laundering and asset recovery in the Eurasian region.
The forum was attended by officers of EAG financial intelligence units and law enforcement agencies. The event was moderated by Evgeny Semenov, Co-Chairman of the EAG Working Group on Typologies and Combating Financing of Terrorism and Crime, and Deputy Head of the Risk Assessment Department of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring).
Participants discussed asset recovery mechanisms in the Eurasian region, the implementation of FATF Standards in this area, measures to prevent the illicit use of cryptocurrencies, and specific aspects of investigating money laundering cases, among other topics.
Aleksey Sedov, an officer of Rosfinmonitoring, delivered a presentation at the forum and shared Rosfinmonitoring’s experience in conducting joint financial investigations, including international cases, and outlined proposals to improve their overall effectiveness.
The participants underscored the importance of the topics discussed for developing effective mechanisms to combat predicate offences and money laundering.
