From December 9 to 12, an international workshop was held via videoconferencing systems, bringing together over 70 financial intelligence units and competent authorities from MENAFATF and BRICS countries, including Djibouti, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
On the first day, experts reviewed the key elements in building a sustainable and effective national financial investigation system, with a focus on fundamental principles and institutional frameworks.
The second day addressed one of the most dynamic and complex spheres, crypto-assets. Discussions covered relevant legislative approaches, practical monitoring tools, transaction analysis, and leading international investigative practices in the blockchain environment.
The third day was devoted to asset recovery. Recovering crypto-assets seized during investigations evoked particular interest and heated discussion with foreign colleagues.
On the final day, focus shifted to operational techniques, including strategic analysis and mechanisms for obtaining and processing data on suspicious transactions. Participants also explored advanced techniques for identifying complex money laundering schemes, including those involving professional money launderers.
The workshop served as an important platform for fostering professional dialogue, exchanging best practices, and enhancing international AML/CFT cooperation.
