Inter-ministerial consultations on countering new challenges and threats were held at the CIS Headquarters in Minsk, Republic of Belarus, with the participation of representatives of relevant ministries and agencies from Russia and other foreign countries.
Delegates from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Anti-Terrorist Center of the CIS Member States (CIS ATC), the Secretariat of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of the CIS Member States (CIS CH FIUs), and the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth took part in the consultations.
The agenda included issues of international counter-terrorism cooperation within the CIS framework, including anti-money laundering and countering terrorist financing, extremism, radicalization, and illicit drug trafficking.
Discussions highlighted principal approaches and best practices in countering money laundering and terrorist financing, particularly through the work of the CIS CH FIUs. Delegates also examined the key threats and risks associated with terrorist financing in the Eurasian region.
Participants welcomed the growing cooperation of the CIS in addressing new security challenges in partnership with other regional and sub-regional organizations, notably the CSTO and SCO, and expressed readiness to deepen and expand such collaboration.
Special attention was given to strengthening bilateral engagement and advancing joint projects –such as the International Olympiad on Financial Security and the International Movement on Financial Security – aimed at preventing youth involvement in illegal activities.
