The workshop entitled "Relevant Changes in the Legal Regulation of Digital Assets at the International Level and in Domestic Jurisdictions to Improve the Effectiveness of National AML/CFT Systems" and a round table (discussion) on current aspects of digital assets regulation took place on 28 February 2020 at ITMCFM.
Representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended the workshop organized under the auspices of the International Network AML/CFT Institute. Among foreign participants were representatives of FIUs, government agencies, the private sector and INI’s universities.
A. Yurov of Lebedev Physical Institute and students of RUDN’s Law Institute, an INI’s member, attending the course «Legal Regulation of Financial Monitoring and Compliance System», represented Russia at the event.
Round table participants discussed challenges related to the development of global stablecoins, central bank digital currencies, private digital currencies and their impact on national AML/CFT systems in the Eurasian region in the context of implementation of the FATF Recommendation 15 and Guidance on Virtual Assets, as well as covering country-specific issues.
Following this event, participants acquired new knowledge about the existing digital assets regulatory framework in the EU, UK and USA, as well as about the current and future trends in the development of the global regulatory framework, which, among others, will contribute to the convergence and harmonization of the CIS/EAG member states' approaches to the implementation of international standards and the study of new risks and threats based on the best international practices. This knowledge will also be used by INI’s students in their studies and research.
