Legal persons, legal arrangements and professional intermediaries play an important role in facilitating business growth and development. However, they can also be misused by criminals for the purpose of concealing proceeds of crime.

This joint FATF/Egmont Group research considers the range of techniques and mechanisms to obscure their ownership and control of illicitly obtained assets. During the research, more than 100 case studies were analysed using the experiences of law enforcement experts, the outcomes of FATF Mutual Evaluation Reports and the insights provided by scientific publications and other studies.

The main goal of this report is to raise awareness of national authorities, financial institutions and other professional service providers about the existing risks.
