International Scientific and Practical Online Conference “Development of the Russian Economy and Its Financial Security in the Context of Modern Challenges and Threats”

On October 22, 2020, Rostov State University of Economics — a member of the International Network AML/CFT Institute — launched an International scientific and practical online conference “Development of the Russian Economy and Its Financial Security in the Context of Modern Challenges and Threats” held under the auspices of Executive Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Southern Federal District and the Government of Rostov Region. The conference will last for two days (October 22 and 23).

This event was organized with the financial support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) as part of a grant project supported in a contest for the best online conference held in the second half of 2020.

The online conference was co-organized by:

  • Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring)
  • International Training and Methodology Centre for Financial Monitoring (ITMCFM)
  • International Network AML/CFT Institute
  • Rostov regional branch of the Free Economic Society of Russia

The international format of the online conference has created an environment for development of an academic dialogue and a fusion of knowledge among scientists from Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Greece, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Czechia, and other countries. The online conference is virtually attended by representatives of universities that are members of the International Network AML/CFT Institute.

Prof. Elena Makarenko, Doctor in Economics, Rector of Rostov State University of Economics, said in her welcome speech: “The exchange of ideas based on the findings of studies supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) in this subject area will create a synergy effect and give an impetus to new fundamental research. Connection of international scientists and a wide range of Russian researchers to this academic research network will expand the influence of new ideas and approaches at the international level and foster interregional collaboration in finding solutions to academic problems.”

Welcoming remarks to the conference participants were also delivered by Prof. Vladimir Glotov, Candidate in Economics, Deputy Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, and Alexey Izotov, Deputy Governor of Rostov Region.

  • Alexey Khorunin, Deputy Director of the Interregional Directorate of Rosfinmonitoring in the Southern Federal District, topic “Development of the Market for Digital Financial Assets as a Vulnerability Factor of State Economic Security”.
  • Adam Albekov, Professor, President of Rostov State University of Economics, Honored Science Worker of the Russian Federation, Doctor in Economics, and Elena Alifanova, Professor, Chair of the Department of Financial Monitoring and Financial Markets, Doctor in Economics, topic “Development of Assessment Methodology of Russia’s Financial Security”.

After the plenary session, the online conference continued in the form of panel discussions held on October 22-23:

  • Discussion platform of the Federal Research Center - The Southern Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SSC RAS) in collaboration with the Center for Strategic Studies of Socio-Economic Development of the South of Russia, Rostov State University of Economics;
  • Innovation potential of the banking system in the context of modern challenges;
  • Financial and budget risks and their impact on the modern condition of the financial system;
  • New development paradigm of the regional economy, industries, and enterprises in the context of global challenges and threats;
